Can render be repaired or does it always need replacing?

It depends on the condition. Small cracks, minor blown patches and localised damage can often be repaired. Widespread failure usually means replacement is the more sensible option.

How long should render last?

A well installed modern silicone render should give you 25 to 30 years of good service. Older sand and cement renders often start showing serious wear at around 15 to 20 years, sometimes sooner if the original preparation was poor.

Can I fix render cracks myself?

Small hairline cracks can sometimes be sealed with a compatible flexible filler. But diagnosing why the cracks appeared in the first place is more important than filling them. If you fill the crack without addressing the cause, it will come back.

Will new render fix my damp problem?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If damp is being caused by failing render letting water in, a proper new system can make a real difference. If damp is caused by something else, like a rising damp issue or a leak, rendering over the top will not fix it and can actually make it worse.
